Western Plays Host to Reigning Champions

Western and Oral Roberts will play a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Sunday.

MACOMB, Ill. – Hosting The Summit League reigning champions, Western Illinois baseball welcomes Oral Roberts to Alfred D. Boyer Stadium this weekend.
 
Friday's game will remain as scheduled at 3 p.m. while Saturday will feature a doubleheader that begins at noon.

Game 2 | RHP Ryan Dunne (4.29 ERA) vs. LHP Miguel Ausua (3.76 ERA)

Last Outing
With home runs in the seventh and ninth inning, respectively, Deion Thompson and Drue Galassi helped spark a six-run rally late in the game, but Western dropped its midweek tilt to Bradley, 14-7.
 
Jack Carberry pitched a season-high three innings in relief, yielding just one hit to close the game.
 
  • Action against the Braves captured four total home runs, the most recorded all season
  • Galassi led the Leathernecks in homers a season ago, and tabbed his first of the year with a leadoff shot in the ninth inning; Thompson now has two on the season
  • Alex Dorethy was inserted into the Leathernecks' starting lineup three games ago, and has totaled six hits; he went 3-for-5 against Bradley with one RBI

A Job Well Dunne
Senior righty Ryan Dunne currently leads all Summit League pitchers with 43 strikeouts. He fanned nine, a career-high, at Evansville (March 3) and recorded eight in his first career win at Fort Wayne (March 31).
 
Dunne has pitched 42.0 innings, the second most in the league, and has a 4.29 ERA which ranks ninth behind teammate Ian Koch (4.27).
 
In Relief
Dorethy leads Western's relief pitchers with 13.2 innings and has a 1.98 ERA. Colan Borchers guides the pack with a .93 ERA in 9.2 innings and is followed by Jimmy Perkins (9.1 IP / 5.79 ERA).
 
Keep It Going
Deion Thompson and Johnathan Fleek remain the only two Leathernecks to have competed in every game this season.
 
With a .274 batting average, Thompson continues to lead Western in RBIs (13), runs (13) and hits (23). Fleek is hitting .266 and ranks second on the team in hits (21) with eight RBIs.
 
Scouting the Opposition
Oral Roberts is in the midst of a four-game conference winning streak and visits Macomb with an overall record of 16-11, 7-2 in Summit League play.
 
Two are hitting above .300 with Spencer Henson managing a team-high .359 average with 33 hits and 26 RBIs.
 
On Deck
Western hosts Southern Illinois – Edwardsville next Wednesday at 4 p.m. before welcoming Omaha on Friday.
