MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois baseball welcomes Maryville University to the Alfred D. Boyer Stadium for a midweek tilt.
 
First pitch is scheduled for Wednesday at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed live on Leatherneck All-Access.

Last Outing
Western wrapped its home-opening, conference-opening weekend with a series victory over North Dakota State. The Leathernecks shutout NDSU, 2-0, in the opener, dropped game two, 2-1, in extra innings, and cemented the set, 6-3, in the finale.
 
Pitchers Ian Koch and Mikel were credited with wins while Pete Minella recorded a save.

  • With 12 at-bats, Deion Thompson paced Western in hits (4) and went 2-for-2 in stolen bases
  • Bailey Montgomery went 3-for-3 in the series finale and added two RBIs
  • Freshmen Jace Warkentien and Mikel each pitched a career-high in innings; in two complete frames, Warkentien allowed two hits, and in 3.1 innings, Mikel allowed one hit while striking out three
  • Pitchers Ryan Dunne, Koch, Mikel, Alex Dorethy, Warkentien, Minella and Colan Borchers each appeared in the series and none allowed an earned run

Dunne Named Summit League Pitcher of the Week
Ryan Dunne crowned a successful outing on the mound versus North Dakota State (game two) with The Summit League Pitcher of the Week award, the league announced Monday (March 19).
 
He secured his first conference honor after surrendering a season-low three hits and no earned runs against NDSU Sunday. Dunne did not allow a hit through the first five innings of play, and finished the game with seven strikeouts.
 
The appearance marked back-to-back, eight-inning games for the senior righty.
 
Scouting the Opposition
Maryville (8-13) is a Division II school competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drake Lubin is leading the team in at-bats and is hitting .386 with 32 hits and 11 RBIs. Dalton Schumer has a team-best 18 RBIs and Brenna Williams follows with 17.
 
On Deck
Western returns to Alfred D. Boyer Stadium Friday in a three-game set against South Dakota State. Game one is scheduled for 3 p.m., and will air on ESPN3.
