One Series. Two Venues.

Western Illinois and Murray State's baseball teams will split action in Marion, Ill., and Murray, Ky., this weekend.

MACOMB, Ill.
– Instead of a three-game set in Kentucky, the Western Illinois and Murray State baseball teams will split action in Marion, Ill., and Murray, Ky., this weekend.
 
Sunday will feature a doubleheader at Rent One Park, the home of the Southern Illinois Miners (Frontier League), and Monday's finale will be held at Reagan Field on the campus of Murray State.
 
The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. while Monday's game is set for 1 p.m.
 
Opening Weekend
Western (0-3) met Middle Tennessee State in its season-opening weekend where eight of its 10 runs scored were recorded after the fifth inning.

Ian Koch received the starting nod on Opening Day and pitched 6.0 innings of solid baseball. He struck out seven MTSU batters to tie his career-high, and allowed three hits and one earned run in the 2-0 decision. 
 
3-for-3
Steve McShane, Johnathan Fleek, Deion Thompson and Drue Galassi have started each game so far in the young season. McShane is managing a team-high .455 batting average on five hits and has an on-base percentage of .571.
 
Fleek is hitting .400.
 
Both have a double and RBI credited to their names.
 
What. A. Catch.
The Leathernecks made a two stellar outfield catches in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Middle Tennessee State.  
 
Drue Galassi ran into the center field wall in the seventh inning and maintained the catch, and Steve McShane followed the act in the eighth with a diving grab deep in left field.

 
Scouting the Opposition
Western will be the first opponent of the Racers' 2018 season to play at Reagan Field. After a three-game series at Kansas and a quick trip to Alabama A&M, MSU manages a record of 1-3.
