Three Seniors Finish with Top 10 Scores in Program History

WIU finished eighth out of 19 teams competing

YORKTOWN, Ind. - Western Illinois senior Alex Krehbiel finished in a tie for eighth place individually, and ended one stroke shy of tying a program record 54-hole score, leading the Leathernecks to an eighth place finish in the 19-team field at the 2017 Cardinal Classic. Led by the three seniors, Western wrapped up the final round with a 305 to finish at 909.

Krehbiel finished at 3-over 75 to end the tournament at 220, one stroke shy of matching Karra Johnson's total from the 2006 Mid-Continent Conference championships.

Allie Leingang actually turned in the low round for Western on Tuesday, carding a 73. Her three-round 225 matches her career-low and tied for the sixth-lowest score in program history.

Ashley Dumler equaled her opening round of 77 and finished at 227. Her 54-hole score set a personal-best and tied for the 10th-lowest score in WIU history.

Indianapolis won the tournament at 863, followed by Bradley (876), Akron (883), Toledo (886) and Southern Illinois (889) in the top five. Western Michigan (903) just edged Western, and the Leathernecks held a four-stroke edge over Austin Peay and host Ball State for eighth place.

Western returns to action October 9-10 at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa.
