Women's Golf Slated to Compete in Summit League Championships

The event takes place April 23-25 (Sunday-Tuesday) with one round scheduled for each day

MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois women's golf team looks to win its first ever league crown as the Leathernecks are slated to take part in the 2017 Summit League Championships April 23-25 (Sunday-Tuesday)... The 3-round, 3-day event features 18 holes per day.

A NOTE FROM HEAD COACH LIA BIEHL LUKKARINEN: "The team is looking forward to the Summit League Championships in Nebraska. We have been preparing for with inter-team match play and putting drills. This is a very talented group of players that are mentally tough. Our goal is to play relaxed and continue to make birdies as we have all season long, without giving them back. If we do that, we have an opportunity to score well. The course is very fair, and I anticipate low scores if the wind stays down."

RECENT SUMMIT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Leathernecks began competition in 2001-02, meaning this season will mark the program's 16th Summit League Championship... Western's best finish is second place (2010-11)... They have had one individual champion in Karra Johnson (2005-06).

ABOUT THE COURSE (from TheSummitLeague.org): The course was built on wooded hills and old cornfields northwest of Arbor Day Farm. Each of ArborLink's 18 holes tells a conservation story, ranging from "Black Cherry Row" for the first hole, demonstrating field windbreaks and their value, to hole 18, "Cottonwood Creek," which illustrates the use of bioengineering in restoring and protecting the banks of South Table Creek.
