Neaveill, Hagen Register Impressive Touches In Western's Final Regular Season Meet

Leathernecks close regular year in final tuneup before The Summit League Championships

FULL MEET RESULTS

IOWA CITY, Iowa. –
 Both Erica Hagen and Chris Neaveill came within a second of first-place touches Friday (Feb. 3) as Western Illinois closed out the regular season with a dual meet in Iowa City against Iowa and Northern Iowa. The Leatherneck men lost to Iowa 145-58, while the women fell to Iowa (161-49) and Northern Iowa (163-55).
 
Neaveill's 52.64 time in the 100-IM was less than a second away from first, while Hagen came within eight-tenths of a second for first in the 50-breast (29.75).
 
Brennan Bladel's 48.51 mark in the 100-free notched him second place as well, just in front of Josh Hill's 48.76 time. The Leathernecks also saw Samir Almhiemid slant for second in the 50-back (24.57). Deven Ries (4:52.29) and Kyle Siebert (27.61) each etched their names for second in the 500-free and 50-breast, respectively. Chance McQuigg's 21.53 time placed him fourth in the 50-free.
 
Western's relay teams recorded three separate top-three finishes. Bladel, McQuigg, Neaveill and Almhiemid raced for a 3:25.92 and third place in the 400-medley relay. Almhiemid, Seth Brady, Neaveill and McQuigg came in first in the 200-free relay (1:25.23). On the women's side, Miranda Mathus, Hagen, Marissa Purdum and Casey Roberts finished second in the 200-free relay with a mark of 1:40.76.
 
In her final regular season meet, Melanie Pearson's 230.55 score in the 1-meter dive placed her fifth. Quetzal Gallagher (232.50) and Colin Parker (191.65) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men's 1-meter, with the former coming in fourth in the 3-meter by hitting 251.25.
 
Tonight's meet was Western Illinois' final tuneup before The Summit League Championships, which take place from Feb. 15-18 in Indianapolis.
