Western Illinois Swimming & Diving Opens Up 2017-18 Season

Leathernecks compete at IUPUI

MACOMB Ill. - The Western Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving teams open their regular season on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 1 p.m. by competing at IUPUI.

Western will square off against the Jaguars in Indianapolis for the first meet of the season. Head coach Greg Naumann looks forward to what his new team will bring this year.

"This should be a very interesting starting point for our team in one of the fastest pools in the country," said Naumann. "The teams have worked hard, and now it's time to let them loose for some outside competition."

The Leathernecks start the season a little later than last year, but that means more preparation time. Naumann expects the more time training to pay off in their first outing.

"The format of the meet will hopefully benefit us a bit more since we will be racing shorter events. Our sprints have been looking great in practice," said Naumann.

Last year, the Leatherneck men concluded the season by finishing fifth at The Summit League Championships as the women's team finished sixth.
