Leathernecks Compete at Missouri Invitational

Western has solid showing in Missouri on Friday

COLUMBIA, Mo. –
In its third meet of the season, the Western Illinois track and field team took to the Missouri Invitational on Friday (Jan. 20). The meet was hosted by Mizzou and took place on the 200-meter track inside the Hearnes Field House.
 
Alyssa Johnson was Western's lone event winner of the day as she finished first in the 800, clocking a time of 2:17.44.
 
The event was also highlighted by solid performances in the throws. Brad Walls finished third overall in the weight throw with a new personal best of 55-0 (16.77m). Brady Shows finished ninth overall in the weight throw with a personal best of over two-feet (44-4, 13.51m).
 
Jasmine Swanagan placed fourth in the shot put with a new personal best of 42-2 1/2 (13.17m). Abbi Smith also recorded a new personal record of 39-6 3/4 (12.06m) to place eighth. The duo also finished ninth and 10th, respectively, with identical throws of 44-8 (13.63) in the weight throw.
 
Lucas Lingle was Western's top finisher in the 3,000, clocking a new lifetime best of 9:08.85 to finish sixth. Grant Kaiser finished right behind him in 9:09.16.
 
Malachi Adams led the way in the sprints for the second straight week, placing ninth in the 60 with a time of 7.00, and seventh in the 200 with a time of 22.44. Josh Kirby set a new personal record of 8.39 in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fifth.
 
Kaliyah Cobb and Bo Brasseur each recorded top-ten finishes in the 200. Cobb finished in eighth with a time of 26.15, while Brasseur took 10th in 22.23. Brasseur was also Western's top finisher in the jumps, taking fifth in the long jump with a mark of 17-6 1/4.
 
Ashley Graham leapt to a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 36-10 1/4 (11.23m). Megan Reed finished in seventh with a new best of 35-11 1/2 (10.96m).

The Leathernecks split open February at the Meyo Invitational and Don DeNoon Invitational on Feb. 2-3.
