Track and Field Wraps Up Regular Season Competition

Leathernecks now turn focus to Summit League Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. – The Western Illinois track and field teams took to competition one last time before the Summit League Championships Friday and Saturday (May 6-7) at the Rankin/Poehlein Invitational, hosted by Purdue.
 
Megan McGlone tallied one of the top days for the Purple and Gold as she recorded a pair of personal bests. McGlone's first PR came in the javelin where she finished in third with a mark of 98-3. She would later take fourth in the 100 hurdles in a PR time of 15.63.
 
Khalyia Lawson also brought home a pair of personal bests, with high marks in the women's long jump and triple jump. Lawson claimed second in the triple jump with a PR mark of 36-8 ½ while her leap of 17-9 ¾ in the long jump was also a personal best for Lawson. Lawson would be joined by Hasana Huff and Ashley Graham in the triple jump, as the pair finished right behind Lawson in third and fourth place, respectively.
 
Jeffrey Padesky recorded the top finish on the men's side, claiming second in the pole vault. Padesky used a jump of 15-1 ½ to take home the silver. Western also had a strong showing in both the men's and women's shot put, as Danny Daniels and Jasmine Swanagan each placed fifth in the event. Daniels threw to a mark of 42-6 ¾ while Swanagan registered a personal best throw of 43-4 ½.
 
Josh Thomas ran to a season best time in the 110 meter hurdles, as his time of 15.08 put Thomas into third place. Thomas came back to compete in the 400 meter hurdles and crossed in a time of 54.28 to take second in the event. Xavier Levy tallied a season best of his own in the men's 100 meter dash, posting a time of 11.13
 
In a condensed field of four competitors, Western Illinois swept the top three spots in the women's 100 as the trio of Kaliyah Cobb, Sierra Woods, and Lawson claimed the top spots on the podium.
 
Western now turns its attention to The Summit League Championships, hosted by South Dakota. The three-day meet will run May 12-14 in Vermillion, South Dakota.
