Western Falls in Game Two at Arkansas

Chris Tschida reached base in all five plate appearances

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Chris Tschida reached base in all five plate appearances, including a 2-run homer, but Arkansas pulled away in the later innings in a 9-3 decision Saturday afternoon (March 12) at Baum Stadium. The 14th-ranked Razorbacks improved to 12-3 while Western dropped to 2-10.
 
The Razorbacks jumped out to an early lead, using consecutive doubles to start the bottom of the second and go ahead 1-0. Later in the inning a 2-out RBI single made it 2-0. Western quickly responded during the next half inning.
 
Drue Galassi lined a leadoff single to right on the first pitch, then two pitches later Tschida launched his then game-tying 2-run homer to left field.
 
Chad Spanberger hit a 3-run homer to right in the third inning, putting Arkansas ahead for good. For the first time this year Western scored in the fourth inning.
 
Connor Currier and Nick Schrader had back-to-back singles to start, then Dave Dobrinich sacrificed the runners over. Justin Fitzpatrick walked to load the bases. Galassi beat out a double play ball for a RBI.
 
Rick Nomura hit a leadoff homer in the fifth then in the sixth inning Clark Eagan delivered a sacrifice fly making it 7-3. The Razorbacks added a run in the seventh and eighth inning for the final margin.
 
Tschida ended 2-for-2, matched his career-high of two walks and was a hit by pitch. Schrader and Colton Pogue (hitting his fourth double of the year) added two hits apiece.
 
Starter Joe Mortillaro (0-3) allowed five runs on eight hits in three innings. Matthew Sturchio was charged for two runs in 2.1 innings of work, striking out one. Ricky Digrugilliers allowed a run in 1.2 innings of relief. Jimmy Perkins allowed one run in his inning of work and made his first collegiate appearance hitting, entering the ninth as a pinch-hitter.
 
Starter Keaton McKinney gave up three runs in 3.2 innings of work. Blaine Knight (2-0) earned the win with 4.1 innings of scoreless relief. Rick Nomura led UA with four hits, one of five Razorbacks with a multi-hit game.
 
The series concludes on Sunday afternoon (March 13), a scheduled 1 p.m. start.
