Western Illinois Closes Regular Season at Iowa

Leathernecks ready for final tune-up before The Summit League Championships

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois swimming and diving squads wrap up the regular season Saturday (Feb. 5) by heading to Iowa City to compete against Iowa.

"Since this is our last meet prior to the Summit League Championships, I will be looking to try and finalize some of our relay lineups," said head coach Greg Naumann. "This is usually a quick meet for us based upon the format, which also allows us to make some decisions on our relay lineups. This is our last tune-up meet before conference, so I hope to see some quick swims out of the team. Iowa's pool is one of the fastest pools that we compete in during our season, so that will also help us out."

The Leatherneck men are coming off a 169-119 win over Washington University. Samir Almhiemid set a pool record in the 100-back and JD Furr, Chris Neaveill, Tyler Neaveill, John Hall and Chance McQuigg also reached for first-place touches.

Western's women's team fell 180.5-102.5 against the Bears, but Erica Hagen recorded a pool record in the 100-breast. Haley Locke swam for a first-place finish in the 100-back and Lizzie Hollopeter split first in the 50-free.

The Leathernecks' meet at Iowa will be their final competition before The Summit League Championships (Feb. 17-20) in Indianapolis.
