MACOMB, Ill.- The Western Illinois women's basketball program plays host to the visiting Northern Illinois Huskies for a non-league matchup this Saturday (Nov. 19). This game marks the first home contest prior to a four-game road stretch for the Leathernecks.
A LOOK AT YOUR LEATHERNECKS:
Western Illinois is coming off a 100-87 win over Southeast Missouri on the road behind the career-high 30 points of junior transfer Morgan Blumer. The Leathernecks had four score in double figures, with Blumer (30), Emily Clemens (20), Taylor Hanneman (19) and Michelle Farrow (13). Clemens also tied her career-high in assists (12) for the second time this season.
Both Blumer and Hanneman drained a career-high five 3-point field goals (all of Hanneman's in the second quarter). Blumer's 30 points also marks and individual Summit League-high thus far this season, and she ranks second in the league in points per game. She also leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.7 per contest.
The Leathernecks have three averaging in double-digit scoring in Blumer (19.7), Clemens (17.3) and Hanneman (16.0).
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES:
Northern Illinois sits at 2-0 overall, with a 90-70 victory over Loyola and a 114-104 double-overtime win against Milwaukee at home. Ally Lehman leads the team averaging 27.5 per contest. The Huskies have five others averaging in double figures for points per game in Courtney Woods (18.0), Cassidy Glenn (14.0), Janae Poisson (14.0), Kelly Smith (11.5) and Mikayla Voigt (11.0).
In the Huskies' last game against Milwaukee, Lehman scored 48 points and recorded 21 rebounds, shooting 17-for-29 from the field.
The Huskies are led by head coach Lisa Carlsen, who is in her second season with the Huskies.
SERIES HISTORY:
The in-state rivalry dates back to 1972, where the Leathernecks won the first meeting 60-51. Northern Illinois leads the all-time series 20-17. Western Illinois has won the last four meetings. In 1999, the Leathernecks snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Huskies, and since then, WIU has won five of the last six meetings.
This will be the first time in 11 years that the two programs will face each other, as Western came away with a 50-34 win at home on Nov. 22, 2005.
