Men's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule, Alumni Game, and Summer Camp Dates

The Leathernecks will play seven games with the alumni matches set for May 2 and summer camp for June 15-16.

MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois men's soccer will play a total of seven games this spring including an alumni match set for Saturday, May 2 at 4 p.m. Additionally, Dr. Eric Johnson will host his Elite Soccer Academy June 15-16 with youth camp running through June 18 the team announced Thursday (April 2).

The Leathernecks opened their spring schedule on Saturday, March 7 with an exhibition against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the United Soccer League (USL), and have scheduled five more opponents for the spring including: at Northern Illinois (Saturday, April 11), at Quincy (Saturday, April 18), vs. Truman State in Quincy (Saturday, April 18), vs. Wisconsin (Saturday, April 25), and at Bradley (Friday, May 1). The Purple and Gold will conclude their spring with two alumni games to be held on Saturday, May 2 at John MacKenzie Alumni Field. The first game will be alumni of odd years against alumni of even years at 2 p.m., followed by alumni versus current Leathernecks at 4 p.m. with a social to follow. Those who are interested in playing and attending the social should RSVP with Coach Johnson by phone or email (ep-johnson@wiu.edu).

Coach Johnson is also set to host yet another Elite Soccer Academy from June 15-16. The academy will focus on player development with sessions focused on technical play in the morning combined with tactical decisions and team play in the afternoon and evening. The resident rate is $150 total and includes three meals and one night in a room. The commuter rate is $125 and includes two meals.

A youth day camp will also be held from 9 a.m. - noon June 15-18 for boys and girls grades K-8. The cost is $60 and also includes a ball. Both camps include a 15% family discount for multiple campers and a WIU employee discount (call Coach Johnson for more information).
