Leathernecks Drop Summit League Contest at IUPUI

Western looks to bounce back against Monmouth on Sunday, March 22

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Western Illinois men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to IUPUI Friday (March 20) evening at the West Indy Racquet Club. IUPUI's sweep of the Purple and Gold moves the Jaguars to 6-11 (2-0 Summit League) on the season, while WIU falls to 0-14 (0-3) this season.

The Jaguars opened play by taking the doubles point with three victories. Nikola Pavlovic/Surya Sawhney fell 8-0 at the No. 1 spot, Ross Smith/Chris Bunch dropped an 8-1 decision at No. 2 doubles, and Jacob Sanders/Anthony Timberlake lost by a final of 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Pavlovic got off to a hot start, as he claimed the first set of his match at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (8-6). The lead couldn't be sustained, as Pavlovic dropped the second set, 6-1, and dropped a third-set tiebreaker, 10-6. Elsewhere, Bunch (No. 1), Sawhney (No. 3), Sanders (No. 4) and Timberlake (No. 6) all fell by a final of 6-0, 6-0. Smith competed at the No. 5 position before losing, 6-1, 6-0.

Western returns to the courts on Sunday (March 22), as a the team plays hosts to Monmouth. First serve is set for 4 p.m..
