Leatherneck Track and Field Finishes Against Tough Field at Notre Dame

The second and final day of the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, wrapped up on Saturday (Feb. 7).

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Western Illinois men's and women's track and field wrapped up day two of the Meyo Invitational against a tough field of nearly 1,000 competitors on Saturday (Feb. 7) at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. While no team scores were kept, one Leatherneck was able to finish in the Top-10 with Jasmine Brown turning in a seventh place finish in the long jump.

"We were pretty dissapointed in our performances this weekend," said head coach Mike Stevenson. "With a few exceptions, we were pretty poor across the board. A big part of our performance issues center around having to compete right after getting off the bus and having a long day yesterday, but in the end, we just need to be better. Our better performances of the meet occurred today (Saturday), but most of our events were yesterday."

Along with her Top 10 finish, Brown also set a personal record in the triple jump as well. Aaliyah White set two personal-best marks of her own in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash while Jaclyn Finney also improved her career-best time in the 600-meter run.

On the men's side, no Leatherneck was able to crack the Top-10, but Tyler Younkin, Marcus Charles and Daniel Ingram were able to turn in personal records in the 200-meter dash (Younkin, Charles) and 400-meter dash (Ingram).

The Purple and Gold next head to Monmouth, Illinois on Saturday, Februrary 14 for The Fighting Scot Indoor in preparation for The Summit League Indoor Championships, set to begin Friday, February 27.
