Rasmussen and Abercrombie Set New Program Records on Day Two

Julia Rasmussen and Matt Abercrombie broke their own records to highlight day two of the 2015 Championships.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Julia Rasmussen and Matt Abercrombie set new program records on Thursday (Feb. 19), breaking their own records set one year ago.

Rasmussen finished the 50 freestyle in 23.96, surpassing her previous mark of 24.07. Meanwhile Abercrombie finished the 500 freestyle in 4:30.26, just under eight-tenths of a second faster than the time he set in 2014.

Both the men and women's 200 Free Relay team finished just shy of entering the top three at Western Illinois. The team of Lizzie Hollopeter, Sarah Rosenhauer, Michele Wasta, and Rasmussen touched out in 1:38.35, five-hundredths of a second shy of the current third-best time, 1:38.30 set in 2013. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Dylon Rykosky, Shawn Farrar, Chris Neaveill, and Abercrombie finished in 1:24.11, just under one second away from entering the top three.

Dylon Rykosky and Jacob Shain represented Western in the 200 individual medley. Rykosky was unable to break his program record set in 2014, finishing with a final time of 1:54.25. Shain moved into seventh in the record books, touching the wall in 1:54.85.

Viktor Rusenas and Doug Ogilvie finished third and sixth in the 'B' Final of the men's 1-meter diving competiton.

At the end of the second day of competition, Western Illinois women sit in sixth place with 92 points. The Leatherneck men are in fourth with 125 points. Action at the 2015 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships continues on Friday (Feb. 20) in Indianapolis, Indiana.
