MONMOUTH, Ill. -
On Saturday (Feb. 14) Western Illinois track and field standout Jasmine Brown took over first place in The Summit League's triple jump rankings in addition to two first place finishes (long jump/triple jump) at the Fighting Scot Invite hosted by Monmouth College. Brown's triple jump mark of 12.49 meters also serves as a new personal record for the sophomore and is one of 27 new personal bests set by the Purple and Gold this weekend.

"We are a long way from where we want to be in the end, but today we had some athletes who took big steps in the right direction," said head coach Mike Stevenson. "We had a big number of personal bests for a lot of our kids and that was good to see. The highlight of the day was certainly Jasmine Brown's performance in the triple jump. She jumped over 12 meters on every single jump, as well as improving on each of her six jumps. She ended with a mark of 40'11.5" and that is a huge leap."

With Brown leading the way, 23 additional Leathernecks competed at a record-setting pace with 11 men posting 12 personal bests, and 13 women putting up 15 lifetime bests of their own - some competing for the first time in certain events.

For the 13 women it was: Sierra Woods, Kate Rhea, Loucreasha Smith, Chasity Powell, Alyssa Johnson, Kelsey Capovilla, Jaclyn Finney, Angela Brown, Jaylee Clements, Madison Lefler, Megan McGlone, and Mary-Bianca Fuller, with eight out of the 15 marks being posted in the 200-meter and 400-meter events.

On the men's side: De'Maine Bailey, Justin Kilpatrick, Charles Morrow IV, Josh Thomas, Darius Thomas, Tariq Ahmad, Mark Holt, Grant Kaiser, Jared Rohn, Kaylon Cutts, and Max Ford made up the 11 record-setters with new marks in eight events.

No team scores were tallied for the event.

Western now looks to carry its momentum into The Summit League Indoor Track and Field Championships with six individuals ranked fifth or better in five events. The championship meet is set to begin Friday, February 27 in Fargo, North Dakota.
