Josh Thomas and Breanna Moore Highlight Record-Setting Day for Leatherneck Track and Field

Thomas and Moore both posted school-record times in the 400-hurdles at the John Craft Invite on Saturday (Jan. 24).

CHARLESTON, Ill. - School-record setting performances from Josh Thomas and Breanna Moore in the 400-meter hurdles highlighted an up and down day for Western Illinois track and field at the John Craft Invite, hosted by Eastern Illinois on Saturday, January 24.

"Today's meet played out like a Clint Eastwood movie," said head coach Michael Stevenson. "There was some good, some bad, and some ugly. The good side was school records in both men's and women's 400-hurdles. The long sprint group in the 400-meter and 600-meter races were very solid today and showed the most improvement. The short sprinters struggled a bit, but the women's throwers are starting to come in form. We just need to start clicking on all cylinders. We are planning on big things over the next week."

Thomas's record time of 55.35 in the men's 400-hurdles was good enough for a second place finish, while Moore's time of 1:07.99 in the women's race placed her third.

The Purple and Gold men and women saw a total of 24 'Top 10' finishes on the day. In addition to the 400-hurdle performances, Xavier Levy took second place in the men's 200-meter dash, and Sheila Grant-Shaffer added a duo of 'Top Five' finishes in the shot put (5th) and weight throw (2nd). Levy's time of 22.22 places him in Western's 'Top 10' all-time for the indoor 200-meter dash.

Megan McGlone also added a second place finish in the women's pentathlon while the Western Illinois women's 400-meter dash group of Aaliyah White, Chasity Powell and Loucreisha Smith took three of the top 10 spots in their event.

The Leathernecks' next action is set for Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30-31) at the Jack Jennette Invitational, hosted by the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa
