PEKIN, Ill. - The Fighting Leathernecks women's golf program was led by Jessica Knepp in the 2014 Bradley Invitational. Knepp, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 5th-place with a score of 152. Knepp tallied a 76 in each round of the invite.
As a team Western Illinois finished in ninth-place with a score of 645 (326-319).
"I was happy with Jessica's (Knepp) performance as well as Allison's (Farrell), they both played very well," said head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "Jessica (Schultz) tied her season-best score, so I think we did some good things individually. As a team, however, we kind of struggled. Our upperclassmen struggled a little bit, so we are going to get dialed in, work more on our putting, and get ready to compete in Bowling Green's invite next week."
The team title went to Southern Illinois which finished with a score of 617 (309-308), while Kayla Katterhenry of Evansville won the individual crown with a 146 (73-73).
Allison Farrell led WIU's 'Top 5' with a 158 (80-78) with a 20th-place finish, a season-best performance, while Ashley Jeffers also finished in the 'Top 35' with a 31st-place finish after carding a 162 (81-81).
The remainder of the Leathernecks 'Top 5' all finished tied for 36th-place with scores of 164. Kristi Tschudin carded an 82 in both rounds, Julie Whalen posted an 83 in round one and an 81 in round two, and Jessica Schultz finished with a 85 on day one and a 79 during day two.
Women's golf wraps up its regular season April 12-13 in Bowling Green, Ohio with the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.
