GALESBURG, Ill. – Western Illinois challenged in the men's tennis singles matches, but eventually fell to IUPUI 6-0 on Saturday morning (March 15) at the Lakeside Tennis Center. The Fighting Leathernecks dropped to 1-11 overall and 0-2 in the Summit League while IUPUI improved to 3-14, 1-0.
Mitch Granger battled back to a first set tie-break in the number one singles, but eventually dropped a 7-6, 6-3 decision to Jason Jaruvang. Max Cederkall lost to Alex Toliver 6-3, 6-1 in number two.
Brandon Meeker and Chris Bunch both lost by an identical 6-3, 6-4 decision in the number three and four singles, respectively. Brett Furmanski lost 6-1, 6-0 in the number five spot.
Granger and Meeker challenged in the number one doubles but was down 7-5 when the match was called. Bunch and Cederkall dropped an 8-4 decision in the number two spot, and the Leathernecks (with only five players) had to forfeit the number three doubles match.
Western returns to action next weekend at Fort Wayne, playing Summit League foes South Dakota State on Saturday (March 22) and the host Mastodons on Sunday (March 23).
