Dylon Rykosky Named Papa John's 'Scholar-Athlete of the Week'


MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois swimming & diving sophomore Dylon Rykosky was named Papa John's 'Scholar-Athlete of the Week' on Monday (Feb. 24) for his performances in the pool and in the classroom. The honor is the first for Rykosky.

Last week at The Summit League Championships in Indianapolis, Rykosky broke two program records and was a part of a relay team that shattered a program record. The Metairie, La. native finished the 200 IM in fourth place last Thursday with a time of 1:51.68. The previous record of 1:52.67 had stood since 1994.

On Friday, the sophomore finished the 200 free in sixth place with a time of 1:40.16, breaking the old record (1:40.92) which was set in 1993. In relay action on Saturday, Rykosky helped the men's 400 free team to a third-place finish with a record time of 3:01.70, topping the old mark of 3:03.06 set in 1993.

In the classroom, Rykosky owns a 3.388 GPA majoring in Emergency Management.

Leatherneck swimming & diving concluded the 2013-14 season with 15 total records at The Summit League Championships. Every individual record breaker, including Rykosky, will be back in 2014-15 for the Leathernecks.
