ROCKFORD, Ill. - Western Illinois men's tennis dropped a 7-0 decision to in-state rival Northern Illinois on Saturday (Feb. 22). The match was played at Rockford Boylan High School. The loss drops Western to 1-6 overall this spring.
Max Cederkall won the first set of his match against Jovan Zeljkovic 6-2, but lost the final two sets 6-1, 6-3 in the number three singles.
Mitch Granger battled to a third set 13-11 decision in the tie-break but would eventually fall in the number two singles spot. Brandon Meeker nearly pushed his second set into a tie-break before losing 6-4, 7-5 in the number four singles.
Christoph Haertel lost 6-3, 6-2 to Fred Cadieux in the number one singles. Brett Furmanski lost a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Matt Lynch in the six singles. Chris Bunch lost 6-0, 6-1 in the number five spot.
Western will face Dayton on Sunday morning (Feb. 23), scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.
