Swimming and Diving Falls To Saint Louis, IUPUI

The Leathernecks fell to both IUPUI and Saint Louis in the tri-meet on Friday (Oct. 31).

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Fighting Leatherneck swimming and diving wrapped up competition against IUPUI and Saint Louis on Friday (Oct. 31). Western fell to IUPUI 181-59 and Saint Louis 168-71 on the men's side. The women lost 193-46 to Saint Louis and 199-42 to IUPUI.

"We are definitely swimming faster than we have been all season," said head coach Greg Naumann. "We have only really amped up our training for two weeks since our meet against Truman State, and I can already see the results of our training. We are still taking our races out faster, which should give us some good results at the end of the season. The divers are also doing incredibly well. They are a little injured, but they are doing so much better than they were at this time in years past. We look forward to our next meet with Valpo, and then even more towards House of Champions."

Chris Neaveill won the 100 Fly finishing in 50.51. Neaveill joined JD Furr, Dylon Rykosky and Shawn Farrar in the 200 Medley Relay. The Leathernecks finished third in the A Relay.

Melanie Pearson and Julia Rasmussen continued to put up strong performances in the 1-meter dive. Pearson finished fifth while Rasmussen finished sixth. Pearson also finished fifth in the 3-meter dive.

Matt Abercrombie finished the 1000 Free in 9:56.61, good for third. Deven Ries followed in sixth. The duo also fared well in the 500 Free. Abercrombie again finished third while Ries touched the wall in fifth.

Viktor Rusenas finished fourth in both the 1- and 3-meter dives. Doug Ogilvie edged out Rusenas in the 3-meter dive, finishing third.

Sarah Rosenhauer finished the 100 Breast in fourth, two seconds off her personal record. Andie Villez finished in eighth. The relay team of Rasmussen, Hannah Fisher, Allison DeWane and Lizzie Hollopeter finished fourth in the 200 Free Relay.

Western Illinois swimming and diving travels to Valparaiso on Saturday (Nov. 8) as the 2014-15 season continues.
