AUSTIN, Texas - Glenn Powell finished 30th as he represented Western Illinois track & field in the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA West Regional at the University of Texas on Friday night.
Powell crossed the line in 14.44 to earn a 30th-place finish out of the 47 runners competing in the national quarterfinal. He outperformed his seed, as he had the 42nd-fastest time heading into the meet.
He narrowly missed qualifying for tomorrow's semifinal race, which the top 24 runners qualify for. The 24th-place runner finished in 14.28 seconds, just .16 seconds faster than Powell.
Nonetheless, Powell defeated runners from premiere athletic programs such as Oregon, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas State, UCLA and Washington, among others.
Nathaniel Marshall was scheduled to compete in the hammer throw on Friday, but the event was postponed until 10 a.m. Saturday due to inclement weather.
Marshall will be joined in Saturday competition by teammate Dana LaRue, who will be participating in the shot put at 6 p.m.
