CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Leatherneck track & field team concluded competition at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic at Southern Illinois on Saturday.
Western Illinois will now prepare for the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational, the lone home meet of the season, from April 11-13.
The Leatherneck men finished ninth, while the women's squad finished in a tie for 12th.
Dana LaRue led Western Illinois on Saturday, posting a pair of top 10 finishes.
Her fourth-place finish in the shot put, with a throw of 15.00 meters, was WIU's best finish of the day. She also finished ninth in the hammer throw, earning a distance of 49.70 meters.
Glenn Powell finished seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing in 14.58, the 10th-fastest time in program history.
Amy Bevins picked up a point with an eighth-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.70 meters.
Western's two wins both came in the 10,000-meter run on Friday during the first day of competition, as Michael Castel won the event on the men's side and Alycia Thurston won on the women's side.
