MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Western Illinois men's tennis dropped a 7-0 decision to Marquette on Saturday (Feb. 18). The Leathernecks fall to 1-3 in regular season competition, while Marquette stands at 4-3.
At No. 4 singles, Andrew Yopp gave his opponent Cameron Tehrani a run for his money in set one before falling overall (6-4, 6-0). Patrick Hammers and Ben Yue each dropped to 2-3 regular season records with their losses at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Jim Capalbo at No. 3 and Daniel Sweeney at No. 5 singles were able to score during set one play but were each shut out in the second set falling (6-2, 6-0) and (6-1, 6-0), respectively. Justin Liss was swept at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-0).
In doubles competition, Marquette tallied the hat trick with three victories over the Leathernecks. No. 1 duo of Hammers and Yue were defeated 8-2, No. 2 pair of Yopp and Capalbo were dropped 8-1 and No. 3 doubles team of Liss and Sweeney were shut out 8-0.
The Leathernecks return to the court next Saturday (Feb. 25) in Rockford, Ill. where they take on Northern Illinois beginning at 9 a.m. and Dayton later that evening starting at 5 p.m.
