Leatherneck Swimming and Diving Outdone by Green Bay

MACOMB, Ill. - Despite recording fourteen season personal records, Western Illinois swimming and diving was unable to defeat the Pheonix of Green Bay at home in dual meet action Thursday (January 19). The women fell 168-52 and the men 151-90, respectively.

"We were seeing a lot of quick times," head coach Greg Naumann said. "People were either right at where they've been during the season or actually dropping some time. Top to bottom, I think the team really stepped up and got after their races. They are racing smart, and they will feel better and better as we get closer to the conference meet in February."

In men's competition, freshmen stole the show. Diver Doug Ogilvie set collegiate career and season personal bests in both One Meter Six Dive (301.43) and Three Meter Six Dive (286.83) competition. His efforts resulted in two second place finishes and the top One Meter Dive mark in the Summit League on the year. It also qualifies him for NCAA Zones.

Tyler Neaveill earned a first place finish in the 50 Free, while Jeremy Grogg took second in 1,000 Free and set a season personal record for his performance. Sam Vissers' runner-up finish in the 200 Free rounded out the freshmen surge, also setting a season top time.

Sophomore Jonathan Bond grabbed a runner-up finish in 100 Back action, while junior Jack Killheffer took home the title in 100 Free and junior Brayden Rudy chalked up a season personal record for his runner-up finish in 500 Free competition. The 200 Free Relay team also earned a first place finish to end the meet.

On the women's side, sophomore Julia Rassmussen led the Leatherneck charge with runner-up honors in 100 Free and a third place finish in One Meter Dive competition.

Freshmen Mary Betsworth and Taylor Miller recorded second place finishes in 50 Free and 500 Free events, respectively. Miller's time of 5:39.19 marks her new season personal record.

Also recording runner-up finishes were Jamie Grau in 100 Breast and 200 Free Relay team.

The Fighting Leathernecks resume competition Friday (January 20) at the IUPUI Quad in Indianapolis, Ind. at 6 p.m. The meet features three teams Western Illinois has already faced his season: host IUPUI, Saint Louis and Xavier.
