YORKTOWN, Ind. – The Fighting Leatherneck women's golf team completed action in the Ball State Cardinal Classic Sunday, finishing 6th of 10 teams with a score of 632 (320, 312).
Head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen was happy with the improvement from the Leathernecks' opening weekend.
"We definitely improved this weekend and ended up posting a much better score," said Lukkarinen. "I am very pleased with Kristi and Ashley's performance; they have both been working hard on their putting and mental game. The course was the longest we've played this fall. We still have some work to do, but we are heading in the right direction."
Southern Illinois finished first in the tournament with a score of 604 (301, 303). Individually, Southern Illinois' Margaret Gilley finished first with a tournament-low 145 (75, 70).
A pair of Leathernecks tied for seventh-place individually with a score of 152. Sophomore Kristi Tschudin carded an even 72 on Sunday after an 80 in the first round, and freshman Ashley Jeffers shot her second 76 of the tournament on Sunday.
Tschudin's second-round score of 72 was a career-best.
Freshman Jessica Knepp finished the weekend with a 163 (79, 84) and tied for 38th, junior Alexa Arent tied for 42nd with a 165 (85, 80) and freshman Nikki Tathum wrapped up competition with a 169 (85, 84) and tied for 53rd to round-out Western's score.
Competing individually was Abby Ball who also tied for 53rd with a 169 (84, 85).
