MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois senior Alejandro Buceta (Madrid, Spain/International) has been named as the Papa John's Scholar Athlete of the Week after helping the Men's Tennis team clinch the No. 2 seed in The Summit League Tournament.
Buceta finished the regular season with a 3-2 record against Summit League opponents at No. 4 singles and is 6-3 at No. 2 doubles with teammate Jeff Cote.
In the classroom, Buceta carries a 3.828 cumulative grade point average as a theatre major. He has appeared in several theatre productions at Western Illinois.
He was named as a Summit League Academic All-League selection following the 2010 campaign and was named to the Western Illinois University Dean's list as a junior.
Buceta and the Fighting Leathernecks will take on No. 3 seed IUPUI at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 22 in The Summit League Championship semifinals. The winner will face either UMKC or Oral Roberts in the title match on Saturday.
