RESULTS
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Western Illinois swimming & diving program have just three meets left in the 2010-11 campaign. The first of those three events was a clash with the Hawkeyes of Iowa on Friday evening at the University of Iowa Aquatic Center. Northern Iowa was also competing on the women's side.
The men had a tough assignment as the Hawkeyes are ranked #24 in the current TYR/CSCAA Men's Division I poll. However, the Fighting Leatherneck men were able to have a few strong swims.
Phil Kurz was strong in the 50-yard Butterfly with second place finish in a time of 25.06. Mike Regan, Connor Peters and Josh Davis finished third,fourth and fifth in the same event, respectively.
David Rilott continued his late season surge with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard Freestyle with a time of 52.04.
Jeff Davis registered a time of 5:05.82 in the 500-yard Freestyle which was good for a second place finish.
Conor Ozog contributed a strong result in the 50-yard Breaststroke with his second place finish (29.47).
Perhaps the highlight of the night for the men was a second place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Newly added swimmers Jack Killheffer, Cory Randolph and Rilott teamed up with Kurz to swim at a 1:31.14 clip.
Alayna Colley registered a time of 25.65 in the 50-yard Freestyle and finished in sixth place. Colley also competed in the 50-yard Backstroke where she grabbed a fifth place finish with her time of 29.35.
Jessica Schnaiter collected a fifth place finish in the 50-yard Butterfly in a time of 29.37.
Former Summit League Swimmer of the Week, Brianna Eizenga, finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:00.21.
The 200-yard Freestyle Relay was also strong for the women as they finished fourth in 1:46.58. Allison Calewarts and Shawn Fitzpatrick joined colley and Schnaiter for that result.
The Leathernecks will travel back to Macomb and compete on Saturday against Monmouth College and Valparaiso at 1 p.m. It will also be Senior Day for Western.
