Green Bay Takes Down Western Illinois

RESULTS

MACOMB, Ill. - The Fighting Leathernecks competed in the first of their two weekend duals. Western traveled to Green Bay, Wis. Friday evening.

The Phoenix took home both duals as the men (121-78) and women (121-73) were victorious.

"It was a tough meet for us today. We had a long bus ride which creates some changes to warming up that the team was not used to. We did have a couple of swims that went real well for some of our individuals," said head coach Greg Naumann.

One of those standout swims belonged to Allison Calewarts (400-yard Medley Relay - 28.53) who teamed up with Jamie Grau, Shawn Fitzpatrick and Alayna Colley to turn in a 2nd place finish in 4:00.27. Brianna Eizenga continued her strong freshman season with a 3rd place finish in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:36.98). Paige Wolfe registered a strong performance in the 100-yard Breastroke with a time of 1:17.49. Colley also competed in the 50-yard Freestyle (26.06) and the 100-yard Backstroke (1:02.88) where she missed winning by less than a second, as her opponent turned in a time of 1:02.34.

The men also had several results to build on and continue to improve as they prepare for the final stretch of the season. Brandon Wilkinson was 2nd in the 100-yard Freestyle in 50.50. The Texan also was the runner-up in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:53.25). David Rilott contributed a strong swim in the 50-yard Freestyle (23.48) in his debut since rejoining the program. Phil Kurz turned in a time of 55.16 to finish 2nd in the 100-yard Butterfly and Conor Ozog was able to finish 2nd in the 100-yard Butterfly with a time of 1:05.14.

"This meet is just another step for us moving towards our conference meet. They are tired and sore from all of their training, which will eventually decrease making them feel more refreshed. We will just keep doing what every team does moving closer towards resting for conference," continued Naumann.

Western will face a quick turnaround as they compete at Brophy Hall Pool at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
