MACOMB, Ill. - Two meets in two days is tough for any program and the Western Illinois athletes will do that twice this season. The first of those occasions is on Friday as the Fighting Leathernecks travel to Green Bay, Wisc. to square off against Green Bay at 6 p.m.
After they finish with the Phoenix the Western squad will load up the bus and head back to Macomb for a dual with Illinois State at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Green Bay is also swimming twice in two days. After Western leaves town on Friday, they will host the Wisconsin on Saturday. The Phoenix are coming off a dual meet with Illinois-Chicago where the women won 136-105 and the men were downed 135-104.
Illinois State only fields a women's team and they will visit Macomb after a dual meet with Ball State in which the Redbirds fell by a score of 195-101.
Western Illinois competed last as they hosted Eastern Illinois. The EIU men were victorious 185-62 and the women lost 174-70. Allison Calewarts and Jeff Davis both turned in strong performances. Head coach Greg Naumann commented on the fact they were in the midst of the most strenuous workout period of the season. As they prepare for the conference tournament the intensity of the workout will decrease and the results should improve.
