Uncharted Territory
Western's matchup against Austin Peay will mark the first ever meeting between the two programs. Both programs are relatively new as the Leathernecks began their women's soccer program in 1997 and the Lady Govs began play in 2002.
Five in a row
The Leathernecks have remained unbeaten in their past five regular-season matches dating back to last year. Western won its final four regular-season games in 2009 before playing South Dakota to a 1-1 draw in the 2010 regular-season opener.
All-League honorees return
Western
returns three of four all-league players from a year ago. Green, a
first team all-league selection, led all Leatherneck defenders with
three goals. Kellie Julius, an all-newcomer selection, tallied 11 points on four goals and three assists as the team's leading scorer.
Laura Atkinson
was named as a second team all-league selection after finishing 23rd in
the nation leading the conference with a .859 save percentage. Atkinson
finished with a record of 5-3-1 and was named as the league's Defensive
Player of the Week after recording two victories, including a shutout
of Oral Roberts, in the second to last weekend of the season.
