Macomb, IL — Western Illinois women's soccer returns to action Wednesday evening when the Leathernecks travel to face Drake at Mediacom Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Western Illinois enters Wednesday's matchup following a 1-0 setback against Green Bay on Sunday. The Leathernecks battled for 90 minutes while showing improvement in possession and their ability to create opportunities in the attacking third.

Goalkeeper Mahee-Lee Caron turned in a strong performance against the Phoenix, making 12 saves to keep Western Illinois within striking distance throughout the afternoon. The Leathernecks finished with four shots, including two on target.

"I think the girls responded really well," said Western Illinois head coach Ross Henderson. "I'm just conceding one goal is dramatically better than five, for sure. We were competitive. I think the biggest piece we wanted to address was being a bit brave on the ball. We were able to possess and create good opportunities into the final third today, and I think that helps us release a bit of pressure."

SCOUTING DRAKE

The Bulldogs enter Wednesday's matchup riding a four-match winning streak and have not allowed a goal during that stretch. Drake is led offensively by senior Angela Gutierrez, who has scored in four consecutive matches and has five goals on the season.

Paige Millstone has also provided a consistent attacking presence for the Bulldogs, recording four assists this season.

Drake's defensive unit has been equally effective during its current run, allowing just one shot in Sunday's 3-0 victory over SIUE. Goalkeepers Kate Hopma and Addie Ford combined for the shutout without being forced to make a save.
