Western Illinois to face William Woods on Saturday

MACOMB, Ill.- The Western Illinois women's basketball team will face William Woods in the second to last home game of 2010 on Saturday at Western Hall.

The Fighting Leathernecks will look to rebound from a 62-55 loss to Bradley on Tuesday. The game on Saturday will count as an exhibition for the Owls but will count as a regular-season game for Western.

William Woods entered the week ranked No. 13 in the NAIA Division I poll... the Owls have won 17-straight regular-season games but the team will count Saturday's game as an exhibition... the Leathernecks won last years exhibition by a 52-42 score... Jackie Barton scored 18 in the contest while Jordon O'Brien added 11.

Leathernecks Picked Seventh in Summit League:
Western Illinois was picked seventh in the 2010-11 Summit League preseason poll... the Leathernecks return six players from last year's squad... Western tied Southern Utah for seventh place with 162 points in the poll... Oral Roberts was picked first with 438 points and 26 first place votes... South Dakota State was selected second with 393 points and four first place votes... Oakland (336 points), IPFW (285) and North Dakota State (274) rounded out the top five... UMKC was picked sixth with 253 votes... IUPUI and Centenary were selected ninth and tenth, respectively.

Record Watch: Steals:
Anne Borgertpoepping finished last season with 64 steals... Borgertpoepping has recorded 107 steals while at Western Illinois... she needs 30 more steals this season to move in to a tie for 9th place in program history for career-steals.

Demery has Career Day:
Brittany Demery had a career-day against Bradley... the junior forward scored a career-high 13 points and led the team with six rebounds... she was 5-for-7 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe... she is the sixth different player to lead the team in scoring this year... the game also marked the third time she has led the team in rebounds.

Rieger with the Rebounds:
Jackie Rieger currently ranks second on the team with 35 rebounds... she snagged seven rebounds in three-straight games prior to the matchup against Bradley... Rieger led the team in rebounds in each of those contests.

Starting Consistency:
After starting the season with four different starting lineups in the first five games, the Leathernecks have found consistency in their past three contests... Anne Borgertpoepping, Valencia Kelly, Michele Salvatori, Sadie Webb and Jackie Rieger have been the starters for the past three games... in two of those games, the Leathernecks eclipsed the 60-point mark which they have done three times in eight games... the current starting lineup has also been solid defensively, forcing a combined 76 turnovers in the past three games... that is an average of 25.3 opponent turnovers each game.

Salvatori Improves at the Line: Michele Salvatori currently leads the team with a .800 free-throw percentage... she has hit 16-of-20 from the line this year... the sophomore has greatly improved from the charity stripe after shooting just .393 (11-for-28) from the line last season.

Up Next: The Leathernecks will face Judson on Dec. 19 for the final home game of 2010. Western Illinois will travel to Loyola on the 22nd before taking a break for the holidays. The team returns to action after the break with games at Purdue (Dec. 28) and at IUPUI (Dec. 31).
