MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's soccer team honored six of its members at the team's annual awards ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
Jenny Green was named as the team's MVP after finishing second on the team with ten points on three goals and four assists. She was also named as The Summit League's Defensive Player of the Year earlier this month and was a First Team All-League selection.
Laura Atkinson was named "Defensive Player of the Year" after setting a program record for single-season shutouts (7). She finished the season as the league leader in save percentage and was named as a First Team All-League selection.
Kelly Diershow earned "Forward of the Year" honors after leading the team with 11 points on five goals and an assist. She recorded three game-winners against league opponents and was a Second Team All-League selection.
Nora Potempa was named as the team's "Midfielder of the Year" after finishing with four points on a goal and two assists. Her game-tying goal against Oakland in The Summit League Tournament helped the Fighting Leathernecks clinch a spot in the league championship match.
Amber Davis earned "Newcomer of the Year" honors after finishing third on the team in goals (3) and fourth points (7) in her first season at Western Illinois.
Hannah Van Eendenburg earned the team's "Hustle" award after appearing in all 21 matches and making 16 starts as a freshman. She was one of seven players to appear in every match this season.
During the 2010 season, the Leathernecks posted the third-most wins in a single season in program history (10) and finished with a 5-0-3 record at home to extend their home unbeaten streak to ten matches dating back to the 2009 campaign.
