ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Western Illinois swimming and diving program traveled to St. Louis, Mo. to open their 2010-11 season at Saint Louis University.
The men's squad lost the dual meet with the Billikens 181-40 and the women fell 179-40.
Alayna Colley highlighted the results with a victory in 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.04. Shawn Fitzpatrick began the women's 200-yard relay with a personal best in the 50-yard backstroke.
The men's side featured strong swims from Jeff Davis in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle. Davis also swam a strong anchor-leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
"The team swam well considering how early in the season this meet was," said head coach Greg Naumann. "This is probably the earliest we've ever had a meet which means we haven't had as much training time.
"The key for us will be to continue work on our conditioning as we move forward."
The Leathernecks will return to action next at the Truman State University Meet in Kirksville, Mo. on Oct. 23.
