Swimming and Diving Compete at Iowa State University

AMES, Iowa - The Leatherneck swimming and diving program continued their 2010-11 schedule as they traveled to to Ames, Iowa to compete against the Cyclones as well as the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State on Saturday. The women were defeated by Iowa State 161-48 and 154-50 by SDSU. On the men's side, SDSU were victorious 134-75.

The Western results were highlighted by strong performances by Matt Stiefel in the men's 1 meter dive as he turned in a score of 213.60.

Shawn Fitzpatrick was solid for the women as she finished fourth in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:13.30. She also notched a time of 5:27.23 in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Fitzpatrick also team up with Alayna Colley, Allison Calewarts and Jessica Schnaiter to finish the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay at 3:58.98.

Brandon Wilkinson collected a second place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:49.64 and a first place finish in the 100 Yard freestyle
with a time of 49:28. The junior from Colleyville, Texas also competed in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. He joined forces with Mike Regan, Phil Kurz and Conor Ozog to turn in a time of 3:24.62.

Head coach Greg Naumann sees a lot of room for improvement as they begin to get healthier and more experienced. "We are battling some injuries right now, and getting them back to 100 percent. We've just got to be able to push through the pain and find ways to swim faster no matter what," stated Naumann.

The Fighting Leathernecks will return to action in Indianapolis, Ind. at the House of Champions against IUPUI on Nov. 12-13.
