NORMAL, Ill. - The women's golf team began play in their final fall tournament at the NIU Huskie Classic on Sunday. First round play has been suspended due to darkness.
Emily Brink and Tara Peterman lead the Western Illinois scoring with matching rounds of 77's.
Alexa Arent notched a 78 for her first round of action. Claire Gursh shot an 81 and Kristi Tschudin fired an 85.
The team combined for a round of 313 which is just one stroke back of third place (Loyola - 312).
Three Leathernecks competed as individuals. Samantha Hainline carded a 79 and Lindsay Wandrey and Nerissa Hetzel both finished with rounds of 80.
The host, Northern Illinois, sits in first place with a 296. Creighton has the top individual in Ashley Norris as she fired a 72. Other schools competing include: Chicago State (307), Brown (315), North Dakota (320), Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (320), South Dakota (335), IPFW (344), St. Francis (358), Creighton (Card Out) and Gustavus Adolphus (Card Out).
First round play will finish on Monday at 8:30 a.m. and then round two will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
