Leathernecks fall at UIC

CHICAGO -- The Western Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell at Illinois-Chicago Saturday, Dec. 19 as the Fighting Lethernecks men's team fell 177-106 while the Western women fell 178-78.

The men's team was highlighted by five first place finishes, including Jeff Davis in the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:59.68, Brandon Wilkinson in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.22, Josh Davis in the 200-yard IM in 2:05.71, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Phil Kurz, Jeff Davis, Mike Regan and Wilkinson in 1:30.09 and Matt Stiefel in 1-meter diving with a score of 177.85.

The women's team had three first place finishes, including Laura Dinkelmann in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.84, Lauren Trondle in the 200-yard IM in 2:18.00 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jamie Grau, Lacee LaMonica, Katie Regan and Taylor Martin in 1:43.04.

Also with strong outings for the Leathernecks were Kurz with a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:59.06, and Martin with second-place finishes in both the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.00 and the 50-yard freestyle in 25.15.

Western will travel to Charleston, Ill., Jan, 15. to take on Eastern Illinois in a dual meet.
