GREEN BAY, WIS. - The Western Illinois swimming and diving teams took second at the Dorschel Natatorium against Green Bay on Friday night.
The Leathernecks were defeated, 144-91, against a Phoenix squad that has gone 3-2 this season inside their home pool. The Westerwinds were defeated, 147-74, by a Phoenix team that has won 10-of-11 home meets inside their home pool with their last home loss coming at the hands of Wisconsin, 159-80, on Oct. 5, 2007.
The Westerwinds were lead in scoring by senior
Amanda Smith (Morrison, Ill./Morrison) who paced the team with two second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (25.49) and a season-best time of 54.72 in the 100-yard freestyle.
McKinzie Jacobs shaved 2.4 seconds off her career-best time in the 1000-yard freestyle that she set last week against Iowa to finish second in the event with a time of 10:44.97. The Freeport, Ill. native, also took third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:43.16, another career-best time for the sophomore swimmer.
Other top finishes for the Westerwinds included second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.08) for sophomore
Kaley Rowe, sophomore
Alayna Colley in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.83), senior
Amber Piercy in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.38) and senior
Shannon Nelson in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.01).
The Leathernecks were paced by a season-best performance from sophomore
Jeff Davis in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:54.22. The Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) native, also took second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.56.
In diving, senior
Eric Campbell finished first in the 3-meter event with a mark of 291.80. The Glenview, Ill. native, also took second in the 1-meter event with a mark of 277.45.
Other top finishes for the Leathernecks included second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:47.51) for freshman

Phil Kurz in the 100-yard butterfly (53.74), sophomore
Mike Regan in the 100 backstroke (57.01), freshman
Braydon Rudy in the 500 freestyle (4:53.20) and senior
Gregory Thede in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.09).
The Leathernecks and Westerwinds will be back in the pool tomorrow afternoon against UW-Milwaukee at 1 p.m. inside the Klotsche Natatorium.
