CHICAGO ? The Western Illinois women's soccer team gave up three straight goals to drop its second straight road match against DePaul, 3-1, Sunday at Wish Field.
"It's a disappointing result," said Western Illinois head coach Tony Guinn. "When we scored first last year, that was it, the other team wouldn't score. Giving up three goals after grabbing the lead isn't typical of a Western Illinois women's soccer team."
Sophomore Jenna Fagerman scored the game-winning goal for the Blue Demons (1-5-0) in the 30th minute of the game off a corner kick from fellow sophomore Tara Strickland.
The Westerwinds (1-2-0) gave up another goal off of a corner kick in the 36th minute when Strickland bended a corner over the head of goalkeeper
Jessica Walsh and just inside the back post.
Sophomore Lauren Pagone picked up an insurance goal for DePaul with 19 minutes left in play, taking the rebound from a shot that hit off the crossbar and headed it past goalkeeper
Meghan Tyk (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay), who took over for Walsh in the second half.
Western got on the board first behind senior
Katelyn Wisner's (Lenexa, Kan./Olathe East) first goal of the season. Wisner took a pass from senior
Ashley Hoch (Brookfield, Wis./Central) and snuck a shot from 20-yards out over the head of Blue Demons goalkeeper Kelsey Hoinkes.
"We're still trying to figure out who is prepared to play and who will perform at a high level come conference season," Guinn stated. "We don't have our starting 11 put together yet and we're still searching for confidence. It's our job as coaches to try to find the right combinations."
The Westerwinds return home Sunday, September 14, where they have won 10 straight matches, for a 1 p.m. match against inter-state rival Northern Illinois at John MacKenzie Alumni Field.
