MACOMB, Ill. - Junior divers
Anthony Holzhauer and
Eric Campbell swept the diving events against Milwaukee, while 14 season-best times were recorded for the Western Illinois swimming and diving team at Saturday's final home meet of the season.
“Season bests are most important to us as we begin to start tapering,” Western Illinois head coach Nathan Mundt said. “Top times are what we are working for all season and it's important that we stay focused with our conference championship meet just around the corner.”
After facing Green Bay just the night before, Western Illinois fell to the Horizon League's Milwaukee 149-83 on the men's side and 158-80 on the women's side.
“It was tough having back-to-back meets with such strong teams from the Horizon League,” Mundt said. “Our swimmers and divers didn't back off and we want this type of competition before the championships.”
Team captain
Amanda Smith won the women's 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 54.67. Teammate
Kaley Rowe took second in the event with a time of 54.99. The Westerwinds defeated three Milwaukee swimmers in the event.
