Eleven set season-best times, Western falls to Green Bay

MACOMB, Ill. - Eleven swimmers set season-best times, while freshman swimmer Jeff Davis, junior captain Amanda Smith and junior diver Anthony Holzhauer each won two events as Western Illinois fell to Green Bay, Friday.

Western Illinois' nine first-place finishes weren't enough to come out on top of Green Bay, as the three-time defending Horizon League Champions defeated the Westerwinds 164-79. The Green Bay men's squad took a 144.5-98.5 victory over the Leathernecks.

The first three Western Illinois victories of the meet came from freestyle events. Touching the wall one second before Green Bay's Dustin Dietrich, Davis had a time of 9:59.83 in the 1,000-yard freestyle event. Keeping the ball rolling, freshman Kaley Rowe took first place in the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:55.34. Smith took the lead in the 50-yard freestyle event and held it to the end for a victory with a time of 25.08.

Lauren Trondle represented the Westerwinds in the 400-yard individual medley event with a time of 4:40.25, while Smith took her second victory of the night in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 54.34. The final victory in Western Illinois swimming came from Davis, as he took his second first-place finish of the night in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 4:52.71.

Holzhauer swept men's diving with a score 275.33 on the 3-meter board and 300.83 on the 1-meter board. Teammate Eric Campbell finished in second on the 1-meter board with a score of 285.68.

As Western Illinois continues to prepare for The Summit League Championships in February, the squads will take on Milwaukee, Saturday, Jan. 26, for the final home meet of the season and senior day at Brophy Hall Pool.
