GALESBURG, Ill. - The Western Illinois men's tennis team went undefeated against Chicago State and South Dakota State, Friday, April 6.

The Leathernecks (8-7) came from behind to defeat the Cougars (4-6). Wins from juniors Andy Jones at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(8), Michael Tiu at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-3, and senior Drew Forsberg at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4, tied the match 3-3 going into doubles play. Senior doubles duo Justin Junck and Josh Wittenberg took the win at No. 1 doubles, 8-2, while Tiu and sophomore Neil Lesinski defeated the Cougars at No. 3 doubles, 8-5, for Western Illinois to take the win, 4-3.

"We feel fortunate to have beaten Chicago State," head coach Michael Hunt said. "They are a very good team and it took a total team effort to get it done. We were within an eyelash of losing 4-0, but Andy Jones turned his match around and the bottom of the lineup bailed us out in singles. Then, in doubles, we played very well and dominated it from the first changeover. This is the first time this year that I've felt we've started to play to our potential. There won't be many matches where our top three guys get shut out, so if our bottom lineup guys can play like this, we'll be tough the rest of the way."

The Leathernecks (9-7) then defeated the  Jackrabbits (0-14) 4-0, to go undefeated in Friday's competition. Junior Martin Boström took the No. 1 singles spot, 6-4, 6-2. At the No. 2 singles position, Junck defeated the jackrabbits, 6-1, 6-1. Lesinski and Jones picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles slots. Doubles competition was not played.

The men will compete in their last home match, Saturday, at 4 p.m. against Southern Illinois at Edwardsville.
