MACOMB, Ill. ? Western Illinois University's men's tennis team defeated Monmouth College, 6-1, for their third straight win of the season. The Leathernecks won their season home opener for the second year in a row.

Sophomore Neil Lesinski took the No. 1 singles spot over Monmouth College senior Jared Kunkle, 6-1, 6-4. At the No. 2 singles position, sophomore Sean Ragee-Nelson defeated sophomore Kyle Korb, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Michael Schild beat Monmouth senior Greg Bouslog, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 6 spot. Senior Drew Forsberg won the No. 4 singles match against junior Matt Moser, 6-0, 6-2."It's good to get the first outdoor match out of the way and get a win under our belts," stated head coach Michael Hunt. "We appreciate that Monmouth was willing to schedule this match last-minute and play it in Macomb. They have a competitive team and should be successful in their conference this year. Schild, in particular, played well and we're happy that he had some success." Lesinski and Ragee-Nelson defeated Kunkle and Korb at the No. 1 doubles position, 8-0, for their third straight victory. Forsberg and junior Michael Tiu took the No. 2 doubles spot over Monmouth senior Brian Jordan and junior Kevin Kammernharin, 8-0. Taking the third doubles match of the night was Schild and senior Josh Wittenberg, 8-1."This was a good warm-up for us leading into the Michigan State match this weekend," coach Hunt said.
