MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois swimming and diving squads fell in dual meet action Friday, to Wisconsin-Green Bay at the Brophy Pool. The men fell by the score of 145-95, while the women were downed 142-88.
In the men's competition, Western got two first-place finishes from senior Mark DuBois (South Bend, Ind.). DuBois captured the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.29 and the 100-yard freestyle in :48.87. The other first place victory for the Leathernecks came from freshman Gregory Thede (Davenport, Iowa) in the 200-yard breaststroke. Thede hit the wall in 2:18.30.
Freshman Ryan Wichman (Bowling Green, Ohio) took second in the 1,000 free with a season best time of 9:57.05. Also placing second on the men's side was freshman Nick Carroll (Northbrook, Ill.). Carroll took second in the 200 breast behind Thede with a time of 2:20.65. Senior Brent Eames (DeKalb, Ill.) had a second place time of 2:06.35 in the 200-yard butterfly.
On the women's side, freshman Amber Piercy (Fort Wayne, Ind.) claimed first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Piercy recorded a personal best time of 10:44.02 in the event. Sophomore Jen Madgiak (Lansing, Ill.) took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :25.23. In the 200 breast, junior Madeha Farrar (Thornton, Ill.) won the event with a time of 2:27.53.
In the 400-yard individual medley, sophomore Rachael Krull (Garden Prairie, Ill.) took second place with a time of 4:48.30. Sophomore Kara Kupresin (Bettendorf, Iowa) took second in the 200 fly with a personal best time of 2:18.60. Freshman Amanda Smith (Morrison, Ill.) took second in the 100 free with a time of :55.49, while junior Erin Hall (DeKalb, Ill.) came in second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.90.
The Western swimming and diving teams will be competiting in the pool again Saturday, against Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Brophy Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
