KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Western Illinois swimming and diving teams fell to Truman State University Saturday, in a non-conference meet in Kirksville, Mo. The Leathernecks fell to the Bulldogs 116-77, while the women lost 123-70.Senior Mark DuBois (South Bend, Ind.) picked up a first place victory in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 4:57.19. Sophomore Jason Meinhardt (Bettendorf, Iowa) came in second with a time of 4:58.65. DuBois also picked up second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.18. In the 1,000-yard freestyle event, freshman Ryan Wichman (Bowling Green, Ohio) recorded a second-place finish with a time of 10:06.97.The Leathernecks? junior Drew Page (Naperville, Ill.) took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a season best time of :55.95. Freshman Gregory Thede (Davenport, Iowa) and senior Dennis Norton (Algonquin, Ill.) came in first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke respectively. Thede had a time of 1:01.64, while Norton hit the wall in 1:03.77.On the women?s side, junior Lindsay Mathis (Homer Glen, Ill.) finished second in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:01.34. The women?s 500 free saw freshman Amber Piercy (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) take first with a time of 5:24.13, while junior Erin Hall (DeKalb, Ill.) was second in 5:33.80.Western also took the top two slots in the women?s 100 breast as junior Madeha Farrar (Thornton, Ill.) came in first with a time of 1:08.28 and freshman Shannon Nelson (Davenport, Iowa) had a time of 1:10.71 for second place.Both the men and women took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay event as well over the Bulldogs.The Western Illinois swimming and diving squads will close out the regular season at home next weekend against Wisconsin-Green Bay Friday and Wisconsin-Milwaukee Saturday. Friday?s meet begins at 5 p.m. and Saturday?s meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. from the Brophy Hall Pool.
