Western Illinois Falls To Saint Louis In Swimming And Diving

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Western Illinois University swimming and diving squads both fell to Saint Louis Saturday, in St. Louis, Mo. The men fell by the score of 172-123, while the women were defeated 179-100.On the men?s side of the competition, freshman Eric Campbell (Glenview, Ill.) claimed first place and set a new school record in the three-meter diving competition. Campbell recorded 319.60 points on his six attempts, breaking the old record of 315.55 set in 1991 by Kevin Lawrence. In the one-meter dive, freshman Anthony Holzhauer (Towanda, Ill.) took first place with a score of 309.25, which is second all-time in Western Illinois history.Also, recording first-place finishes was senior Mark DuBois (South Bend, Ind.) in both the 50 and 200-yard freestyle events. In the 50 free, DuBois has a time of :22.13 and had a time of 1:47.80 in the 200 free. Freshman Ryan Wichman (Bowling Green, Ohio) collected the Leathernecks other two first-place finishes in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events. In the 500 free, Wichman had a season best time of 4:54.82 and finished the 1,000 free with a season best time of 10:06.66.In the women?s competition, Western recorded three first-place finishes. Freshman Amber Piercy (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) had a time of 10:54.46 in the 1,000 free, while sophomore Jennifer Madgiak (Lansing, Ill.) hit the wall in 1:03.33 in the 100-yard backstroke. Freshman Amanda Smith (Morrison, Ill.) had the other victory in the 50 free with a time of :25.39.Western Illinois will return to action in the pool Saturday, at the Truman State Invitational.
