Swimming and Diving Competes at House of Champions

INDIANAPOLIS - Western Illinois University completed competition at the House of Champions swimming and diving meet at the IUPUI Natatorium Saturday. On the women?s side, Western placed third with 539 points in the two-day event. The men?s team collected 575 points for fourth place. Ball State won both the men?s and women?s competitions.In the men?s competition, freshman Ryan Wichman (Bowling Green, Ohio) recorded one first-place finish and two career bests. Wichman finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a career best time of 4:47.76. He also had a career best time of 16:51.86 in the 1,650-yard freestyle for third place. Freshman Anthony Holzhauer (Towanda, Ill.) finished first in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 292.35.Senior Mark DuBois (South Bend, Ind.) had second-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle events. DuBois had season best times of :48.12 and 1:46.37 respectively. The men?s 200-yard medley relay team finished second with a season best time of 1:40.17.On the women?s side of the competition, junior Madeha Farrar (Thorton, Ill.) had two second-place finishes and both were season best times. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Farrar had a time of 1:05.79 and had a time of 2:25.05 in the 200-yard breaststroke.Junior Lindsay Mathis (Homer Glen, Ill.) finished third in the 100-yard butterfly event with a career best time of :59.53. In the 50-yard freestyle, Mathis finished second with a season best time of :24.61, while sophomore Jennifer Madgiak (Lansing, Ill.) placed third with a career best time of :24.63.In the 100-yard backstroke, sophomore Erin Hall (DeKalb, Ill.) placed third with a career best time of 1:01.36. The 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard medley relay teams each placed second with season best times. The times were 1:51.66 and 4:01.87 respectively.The Western swimming and diving squads will take the winter break off and be back in action Jan. 14 at Saint Louis. Competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
